Scientists within the space agency think a carbon fiber mesh weighing somewhere in the neighborhood of 550 pounds 249 kilograms could be enough to change the potentially incoming asteroid Apophis' course. The idea? The net material would act like a solar sail, increasing the amount of solar radiation absorbed and emitted by the asteroid. Apophis isn't slated to come dangerously close to Earth until 2029, and then again in 2036 if it's just teasing us the first time. Scientists predict a mere 18 years of entanglement in the net could cast such a doomsday object clear of our world for the foreseeable future. Mirrors work on vampires and gorgons, so why not monstrous asteroids?Brandishing a mirror against an asteroid actually has much more in common with the nuclear option mentioned before. Strategically positioned mirrors could concentrate solar rays, heat a small portion of an asteroid's surface, and cause it to spew vapors.

They explained that given the practical benefits of prayer, understanding how lay persons conceive of prayer could supply valuable information to practicing clinicians and researchers seeking to establish a more nuanced understanding on what qualities of prayer contribute to its benefits. The study captures how laypersons 'conceive of prayer' and illuminates why prayer is beneficial. It also offers helpful information about prayers to clinicians working with religious clients related to the subject of prayer. Weld 2007 reports that because of considerations for mental health practitioners, spiritual interventions, including prayer, are now frequently used in counseling. Weld reports that historically, religion and psychology have been mutually exclusive disciplines, each field relying on competing theoretical assumptions. The situation is changing, and spiritual issues have been deemed worthy subjects of study and research Wolf and Stevens, 2001.

He didnt just have a voice. He had amplification the human microphone. On the fourth day of the occupation, a former science teacher named Justin Wedes was speaking to the crowd through a megaphone when a policeman threw him to the ground, the first of a series of rough arrests that morning. Just to intimidate people, recalls Graeber. One mans face was ground into a flower bed, another dragged, cuffed, until his hands bled, another left gasping, denied his inhaler. The cops moved in, citing a law prohibiting the use of electronic amplification. This turned out to be a lucky break: Without conventional means, the occupiers would have to figure out a new way to hear one another. Sitrin, schooled in the factory takeovers of Argentina, which followed that countrys economic collapse, had an ingenious solution: the peoples mic. One person speaks, all repeat, the words rippling through the crowd. Mic check! it begins with a single voice. Mic check! thunders the assembly.
